An Introduction to the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit: A Primer and Update on This New Benefit for the Elderly

  April 24, 2006

Drug Information Association, Online
May 17 2006

It is important that those who work for and with the pharmaceutical industry understand the new Medicare prescription drug benefit that was passed by the U.S. Congress in 2003. The implementation of this new benefit for the elderly is being phased in. Beginning January 1, 2006, the drug benefit coverage went into effect. This webinar is intended to be the first in a series on this new program being implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It will provide a brief history of the prescription drug benefit, the process of implementation, it’s current status, and additional background on what is known as Medicare Part D. The webinar will conclude with a question & answer session in which participants are encouraged to submit questions to the speaker through an anonymous, computerized Q&A function. Future sessions on this topic will delve into more specific issues related to the drug benefit.
