GENE LOCALIZATION

Cambridge Healthtech Institute , San Diego, CA USA
November 4, 1996 - November 5, 1996

Program:
In situ amplification and related techniques are providing powerful new tools for precise localization of specific genes and gene sequences, even at very low copy numbers. Technical steps that can be important for these procedures, such as sample preparation, permeabilization, types of labels, and automation, are constantly being improved and will be presented in detail. Recent results with important applications, such as the identification of latent viral infections in specific cell types, a variety of different cancer-related research and diagnostics, and sophisticated molecular genetic research, will be presented. This technology will play an increasingly important role in genetic studies and diagnostics. The program is designed to provide a means of learning about the latest technical enhancements and the range of applications for which the technology is proving to be most valuable.
