GENE TRANSCRIPTION AND THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION

Cambridge Healthtech Institute , Washington, DC
June 2-3, 1997

Program:
Regulation of gene transcription is essential for cellular changes during health and disease. Significant
progress has been made in understanding how signals can selectively regulate gene transcription and
thus provide the basis for novel therapies. The development of small molecules that serve as
transcription factors, for up- or down-regulating specific genes, will be highlighted. Coverage of
nuclear receptors and their use as models for transcription factors, and the role of genomic
technology and its impact on identification of transcription targets for drug development, will be
featured on the first day. Applications of these therapeutic approaches for a variety of diseases, such
as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and inflammation, as well as for antimicrobial drug development,
will be covered on the second day.
