CHI's TSE AND BIOLOGICALS

Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI) , Washington, DC
October 27-28, 1999

Since the appearance of nvCJD in humans, the spread of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies through contaminated animal and human tissue and fluids has been of great concern to researchers producing therapeutics and diagnostics from these sources. New data is expanding our understanding of the nature of the infectious agent and it’s ability to cross species barriers. This conference will present the latest data on TSE’s in the context of it’s application to the pharmaceutical, biological, and device industry. Topics will include removal of TSE’s from biologicals, new tests and assays for the prion protein, strategies for eliminating TSE-risk sources from the production process, risk analysis and reduction, and the newest data on the nature and transmissibility of the prion.
