About The Course:

Approximately 30 to 40% of adult women suffer from symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction. These include sensory or irritative symptoms of the lower urinary tract; overactive bladder, presenting as urinary urgency, frequency, and nocturia; urinary incontinence; fecal incontinence; and genitourinary prolapse. Most of these patients are initially seen by primary care healthcare providers.

This course is designed to present a comprehensive review of the function of the pelvic floor in women, the pathologic syndromes derived from its dysfunction, and diagnostic and management strategies for dealing with pelvic floor disorders.

Special emphasis will be given to “in-office” evaluation and management in a primary care office setting. In addition, clinical algorithms and indications for referrals will be discussed.

This comprehensive course will:

 Describe the functional and clinical assessment of the female pelvic floor, urinary tract, and bowel
 Discuss the pathologic manifestations of pelvic floor disorders, including irritative syndromes, urinary and fecal incontinence, and genital prolapse
 Present and differentiate among treatment options, including behavioral, pharmacologic, and palliative techniques and devices, for the various pelvic floor disorders
 Review primary care in-office evaluation techniques for diagnosing and managing pelvic floor disorders, and discuss strategies for referral
