CHI's ENABLING MOLECULAR PROFILING WITH CELLULAR RESOLUTION
  July 19, 2002

Cell and Molecular Biology / Anatomy

Cambridge Healthtech Institute, San Diego, California
December 5-6, 2002

To obtain greater specificity and sensitivity in molecular assays, researchers are increasingly analyzing homogeneous cell samples instead of larger tissues that may contain mixed cell populations. Laser capture microdissection, FACS sorting, and magnetic bead capture are among the methods developed to obtain cells of the same type from tissue or from blood. But the resulting sample is often quite limited, as is the level of specific molecules being measured. What are the challenges of doing genetic, gene expression, proteomic, and metabolomic analyses? How can they best be addressed? What has been the experience of researchers working with these samples in a variety of applications?
This conference brings together, for the first time, experts in the technology and applications of molecular analysis at the resolution of pure cell populations. Data from such populations are proving to be much more informative than data based on mixed cell samples. Research is clearly headed in this direction. Come be a part of the discussions and presentations of results that reflect this shift.
