The Science of Ageing – Global Progress

  December 10, 2010

British Society for Research on Ageing and International Association for Biomedical Gerontology, Hilton Metropole Hotel, Brighton
11th-14th July 2011

On behalf of the organising committee, I am delighted to invite you to join us at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton for the first joint meeting of the BSRA and IAGB.  Since the founding of our organisations the science of ageing has grown from simple and speculative beginnings to the point at which translation of its findings into practice is a realistic possibility.    To illustrate the breadth and quality of international biogerontology today we have invited respected gerontologists from around the world to share their latest findings with us.   Their presentations, together with presentations and posters from early career scientists, will give attendees the opportunity to gain an unparalleled picture of the state of the art in the science of ageing.

Ageing research is an area of intense general interest and we are particularly fortunate this year in being able to host a public round table at which a select group of eminent scientists and policy makers will discuss the prospects for progress in the coming years.  Professor Tom Kirkwood CBE, Professor Leonard Hayflick, Mrs Elizabeth Mills OBE, Professor Dame Linda Partridge DBE, Professor Arlan Richardson & Professor Sydney Shall have all made diverse but highly significant contributions to gerontology.  We honour them this year with the award of life membership of our Society, a distinction that has not bestowed on any scientist for more than 40 years.

I look forward to seeing you in Brighton in July
