Two rival teams that cracked the human genome may have underestimated the number of human genes, according to a new computer analysis published in Genome Biology.
Scientists in Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA, claim humans are built from 66,000 genes, nearly twice as many as the current consensus. Full story in BBC, July 7, 2001.
